What applies now (status: 3 August 2026)

  • Applies already (since 2 February 2025): harmful practices are prohibited, and businesses must take measures to support the AI literacy of people using AI on their behalf.
  • Applies since 2 August 2026: people must be able to tell when they are talking to a chatbot, and deep fakes and certain AI texts must be labelled.
  • From 2 December 2026:two narrowly defined prohibitions apply to intimate content made without the depicted person's explicit consent and to material depicting child sexual abuse.
  • Delay now in force: Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 moved the Annex III high-risk rules to 2 December 2027 and the Annex I product-related rules to 2 August 2028.
